Abstract
  • People encounter reality in ways that seem outside the scope of an organization's dominant narration. It is as if we live together yet inhabit different worlds. This project enlargeds the possibility of discourse between people quite different from one another in interest, theological outlook, power and age -- yet united in the exploration of narrative connections. Through a process called Appreciative Inquiry, church members create a statement of right relations and learn that honoring differences of opinion, cultural variety and socially constructed ways of thinking can help us identify the necessary creative and caring behaviors needed to sustain the congregation at its best.
