Abstract
  • The main objectives of the project included: 1) to reduce anxiety levels of selected military families regarding separation due to a temporary duty assignment; 2) to involve a significant number (ie, ten percent of the resident membership) of people from the church membership in extending the ministry of the project to the recipients; and 3) to develop a viable program for local church ministry to military families which can be utilized by other churches, various religious entities and even the military itself. The project included 3 phases: planning, preparation and program. During the final phase, the project director, his nine project assistants, and a trained corps of thirty volunteers from the church made approximately seventy ministry contacts to the church's military families during periods of job-related separation. Several means were employed to evaluate the project: 1) the establishment and testing of a control group and a test group; 2) participant evaluation responses which were completed by the volunteers who served to extend the project's ministry; and 3) professional opinions by qualified experts.
