Abstract
  • The claim of this thesis is that there are connections between transformation in the author's preaching, transformation of the author into a more effective leader, and transformation in the ministry of a rural church. The thesis is informed by The New Homiletic and makes use of an aspect of family systems theory called leadership through self-differentiation and emotional connection to explain the transformation of the author as a preacher and a leader. Through studying interviews with church members, the author concludes that the transformation of his preaching did transform him as a leader which, in turn, contributed to significant changes in a rural church.
