Abstract
  • The study assesses the faith development of active and inactive members in a 500 member suburban congregation. The concept of faith and faith stages developed by James W Fowler is used to inform an instrument-questionnaire of 14 general faith categories (for examples, God, justice, symbols, prayer, etc). Upon completion of the questionnaire ten active and ten inactive members were interviewed. The active members averaged a 4.1 score in the six stages and inactive members averaged a 3.8 score. Programs for ministry to both groups are developed in the ministry of preaching, teaching, and the work of small cell groups.
