Abstract
  • This study investigated the possibility of increasing emotional and intellectual intimacy in pastoral couples and Christian leaders through the application of Bowen's Family Systems Theory. A sample of 17 couples attended four workshops over five weeks. Training in family of origin issues, the nuclear family emotional system, triangulation, and differentiation of self was combined with teaching on a biblical theology of marriage and exposure to Abraham's genogram. The PAIR (Personal Assessment of Intimacy in Relationships) Inventory and a questionnaire were administered. Statistical results did not show the desired outcome although other factors indicated some change in predicted directions.
