Abstract
  • This project develops a non-theistic homiletic based on Buddhist theology. It begins with a description of an emerging American Buddhism that is the basis for this proposed homiletic and a brief explanation of some foundational concepts of Buddhism. It then explores what Buddhist scripture and tradition contribute to three aspects of homiletics: purposes of preaching, hermeneutics, and crafting the sermon. It concludes with an argument for the usefulness of this homiletic for any preacher open to learning from diverse wisdom traditions and two sample sermons that illustrate some of the Buddhist concepts explored in this project.
