  • The author studied the role of the Christian Church in supporting human rights during and after the time of genocide in Guatemala. An integral part of this effort was a discussion of the development of the theology behind this response and the evolution of modern theology in response to the social and political situation in Guatemala. The author contends that the Catholic Church underwent a substantive change in the last forty years in how it responded in Guatemala. These changes in spirituality and theology can and should guide our calling to action and social/political involvement.
