Abstract
  • This paper explores the integrative process of becoming a spiritual director. To become a spiritual director there must be a movement from 'knowing' the history of the discipline to becoming part of the on-going integrative process of living in the mystery of the discipline. This paper examines this integrative process by investigating historical perspectives on growth in the spiritual life cura animarum, defining spiritual direction as an integrative process; and using insights from Jungian psychology in developing not only principles of pastoral counseling, but principles for spiritual direction. The goal of this paper is to discuss practically the experience of grace building on nature and the preparation of a spiritual director.
