Abstract
  • This project is an inductive study designed to impact the retreat assistant's competency and potential to become retreat directors through the use of a weekend rural retreat. Formerly trained assistants were provided an opportunity to learn the role and skills necessary to become directors as they developed an individual retreat. The retreat itself consisted of common prayer, meals, work time, personal reflection and small group sharing. The instruction explored the philosophical history of retreat direction; how to select good assistants; the nature of retreats, the practical applications; selecting good speakers and giving effective talks; preparation of services and prayers.
