Abstract
  • The purpose of the project was to affect the congregation of Fort Johnson Baptist Church (Charleston, SC) in its understanding of and participation in intercessory prayer. Toward this end five separate strategies were utilized: an eight-week prayer course for volunteers; three sermons; a restructuring of the Sunday morning worship service to include a stronger emphasis on the pastoral prayer; a restructuring of the Wednesday night prayer service to encourage mutual congregational intercession; and the initiation of a continuing prayer ministry in the church. Using a variety of evaluative tools, it was found that the congregation did participate more in the practice of intercessory prayer as a result of the ministry project.
