Abstract
  • The purpose of this project was to increase the attendance at the Lord's Supper by generating a deeper appreciation of this sacrament among a particular congregation. To discover the individual perceptions of the congregation regarding the theology and practice of the Lord's Supper, a comprehensive survey was prepared and administered. Results indicated that factors contributing to low attendance include: a lack of understanding of its theological significance; feelings of unworthiness; unresolved differences with fellow believers; and footwashing. Four sermons informed by the studies in Scripture, the writings of Ellen G White, and non-Adventist literature, were then preached. Results of a second survey indicated that changes in attitude are a slow process. The solution to low attendance lies in better preparation of baptismal candidates, education, and home visitation.
