- Abstract
- This thesis examines how an intercultural dialogue of faith among Catholic parishioners might contribute to building inclusive pluralism in multi-ethnic Fiji. Using participation observation and interviews, it analyses two types of parish prayer groups, which embody the separate inculturation of the gospel into indigenous Fijian and Indo-Fijian cultures, and finds them inadequate. Finding inspiration in Jesus' relations with the Samaritans and in mystical community models of the church, the author proposes that the Archdiocese of Suva give priority to forming culturally inclusive small Christian communities and set up a pastoral institute to facilitate an intercultural approach to faith formation.
