  • Churches in the United States face significant fiscal challenges. This project examines the social context of this crisis, and it asserts that this pecuniary exigency is essentially theological in character. The relationship between Christian vocation (belonging) and stewardship (belongings) is explored in light of a Trinitarian perspective on the doctrine of election. The qualitative narrative study method is employed to explore the relationship between belonging and belongings in the lives of four members of a local congregation, Harbor View Presbyterian Church, Charleston, South Carolina. This research affirms that stewardship is a function of vocation.
