Abstract
  • Using statistical sampling, the project seeks to measure a congregation's growth in, climate of, and outreach from compassion and empathy, as effected by therapeutic kinesthetic movement tasks. The thesis investigates theology, biblical word studies, group pastoral care, dance, and applications from dance-movement therapy, music therapy, and left brain/right brain research. Compassion is found to be a process of connecting by centering, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Over a three-month period, ninety percent of the congregation favored such centering. Sixty-four percent experienced greater ability to share compassion from the interventions. These can increase compassion in other congregations.
