Abstract
  • The purpose of this study was to identify and describe reward expectations of parish ministers in Baltimore Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. Rewards were identified in three categories, i.e. Financial and Material, Status and Relationships and Spiritual. The study method was in three parts. The first was an analysis of ordinary and biblical usage of the word 'reward.' the second was a questionnaire survey of all parish ministers in Baltimore Annual Conference. The third was a series of three dialogue groups held among parish ministers in Baltimore Annual Conference. The study indicated that parish ministers in Baltimore Annual Conference generally rejected the concept of reward in the categories defined for the study, however, they do accept unearned gifts from God and the Church in all three categories.
