Abstract
  • This project examines the need for spiritual and numeric renewal within the mainline Protestant church. The leading thinkers, their lives, and the writings of Pietism are explored, and eight themes from Pietism are traced through the contemporary literature on church renewal as the keys to authenticate church renewal. Throughout the project the author uses illustrations from his experience working for renewal in the United Church of Christ and the Ashburnham Community Church where he serves as pastor. The project concludes with the role of vision and a shared, clearly articulated mission for a renewed church.
