Abstract
  • This thesis looks at what it means to be clothed in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit and how the preacher may attain that provision. It concludes there are three essentials: prayer, faith, and proclaiming the gospel. Any diminishment of the sanctifying and salvific influences of God's Spirit during the sermon is traced to a loss of one of these. It focuses on what is meant by, and necessary for, experiencing the 'fullness of the Spirit,' and the concept of 'spiritual illumination' so necessary for the preacher in exegeting the text and the congregation in hearing the proclaimed Word.
