Abstract

The purpose of this project was to equip selected members of First Baptist Church Thorp Spring, Granbury, Texas, with essential personal discipleship skills. To accomplish this the project director first conducted research in the area of spiritual formation. From this research he identified six spiritual disciplines that he deemed essential to effective spiritual formation, namely Scripture intake, prayer, worship, confession, service, and witness. He then created a curriculum comprised of seven sessions, covering the concept of discipline and each of the six identified spiritual disciplines. He implemented the curriculum in six one-hour meetings of the course of six weeks. Those who participated in implementation engaged the curriculum five times during each week for periods of 20 to 30 minutes to design personalized strategies for engaging the disciplines.
