Abstract
  • Short stories, those which can be told conveniently or read in one sitting, have the potential to encapsulate and communicate faith and values compactly and efficiently. Narrative of this sort is used in the Bible, e.g. the parables of Jesus or the books of Ruth and Esther. In this project I explore story as a vehicle for communicating the gospel. First, I examined exegetically six texts. Second, I made a brief historical survey of hermeneutics and set forth my own tentative statements toward a hermeneutic of story. Third, I created a series of six stories based on the texts previously studied and making use of the hermeneutic I described. Fourth I reflected on the stories, on the responses made when they were first told, on the stories of persons and the Christian community, and on the role of my own personal story as a Christian.
