Abstract
  • This project applies the philosophy and methods of broad-based community organizing taught by the Chicago-based Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) to evangelism in contemporary, urban, American culture. These organizing strategies, with an emphasis on developing relationships rather than promoting programs, enable a congregation to increase the numbers participating in parish ministry. The project pursues an organizing effort on this model in the neighborhoods around Christ Lutheran Church (Belmont, Mass) and finds affirmative results.
