Abstract
  • The author's thesis is that preaching in greatly growing congregations would reflect greater strength in relevance and practicality, communication in God's vision for the Church, and mobilization for ministry when compared with preaching in moderately growing or plateaued or declining congregations. The author sought respondents from a sample of greatly growing, a sample of moderately growing, and a sample of plateaued or declining Church of God congregations. Sermons in greatly growing churches were significantly stronger in relevance/practicality, vision, a basis in God's Word, and focus of thought compared with sermons in moderately growing churches. Sermons which communicated effectively across educational levels corresponded to great growth in the church.
