- Abstract
- This project sought to work against fragmenting forces found in contemporary suburban culture and the tendency toward individualistic and private attitudes about religion by calling parishioners of a pastoral-sized Episcopal church to spend one hour each week in a practice that might help them connect or reconnect with God, their neighbor, or themselves. Participants chose practices ranging from journaling to spending time with their families for a three-month period. The project argues that this Sabbath time would increase participants sense of being held together in Christ (against fragmentation) and that the Covenant dimension would increase their fellowship with others (against individualism and privatism).
