  • This study examines the theology of missionary motivation within the Wesleyan movement. First, the biblical and historical context which impelled the Methodists to mission is surveyed. Then a critical examination is made of the theology of missionary motivation of Wesley and some of his followers. Finally, the essential elements for the construction of a theology of missionary motivation are presented. The conclusion is reached that each motive for mission must proclaim the gospel of Christ and do so with the Holy Spirit permeating each motive with the love of Christ Jesus.
