Abstract
  • This is a historico-ideological study of a large suburban Jewish congregation with dual affiliation with the Conservative and Reconstructionist movements in Judaism. The author examines the interaction of the two major religious ideologies in the life of the congregation focusing on three issues or case studies during his first seven years of service as rabbi of the synagogue. The project reflects the rabbi's pastoral attempts to integrate and harmonize the diversified religious orientations within his congregation while remaining faithful to his theological principles and his efforts to forge a vital, forward looking congregation, aware of its pluralism but committed to unified growth.
