Abstract
  • Conflict in the church generates much anxiety on the part of the pastor and the congregation. Typical reactions to conflict in the church are usually dysfunctional and often destructive. An understanding of the dynamics of conflict and the conflict management options available helps one see which behavioral choices may be destructive and which may be constructive. Preconceived notions that conflict is bad are stated and revised in the context of the Christian faith and the scriptural witness. Observations of Jesus' conflict management styles and of conflicts recorded in scripture are utilized to initiate a theology of conflict.
