- Abstract
- The objective of this project is to pursue an understanding of preaching that furthers the mission of the church generally, facilitating the mind of Christ among his disciples. The final product should serve as a theological foundation for preaching and a practical guide to all who would preach and teach at the local church level. Preaching should be mission-specific, that is, facilitate the purpose of the church, making disciples. The paper considers why purpose or mission is important to the discipline of homiletics. It surveys scripture, church history and modern theology concerning 'mission' in the life of the church. Finally it proposes and defends a Christ-centered hermeneutic and Christ-centered preaching. All of this has its premise that the mission directs all the activity of the church and Christian.
