Abstract
  • The question of the role and status of the deacon has long been an issue in the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas (MCCA). This project focuses on the ministry of the deacon in the MCCA. It uses the deacons in the Jamaica district as a sample of what exists in the ministry. This paper identifies Religious Ethical Mediation, developed by Marcia Y. Riggs, as a way of recognizing and accepting the differences in the ministry of the deacon and the presbyter. These differences should be visible in the God-given gifts and not the structure of the church.
