- Abstract
- The author researched the importance of preaching the lament psalms. A lectionary study book on suffering and three specific psalms was prepared. A diverse group of pastors was recruited to take part in the study and preach a three-Sunday sermon series on three lament psalms. The goal was to move congregants from cultural forms of denial of suffering to a biblical theology of communicating suffering. Response cards indicated that 40% of the respondents changed their beliefs regarding God and suffering. Nearly 100% found that the series taught them the importance of communicating suffering with God and fellow Christians.
