Abstract
  • Funeral sermons are an integral and vital part of parish ministry. This project focuses upon the value of funeral sermons that integrate personal stories with biblical proclamation. Why this is important and how this can be done are both explored, along with practical suggestions for gathering stories through carefully facilitated family interaction and active listening. Surveys, interviews, observation and experience are utilized along with research regarding appropriate homiletic usage of these stories. Two sermons are included as appendices that exemplify the weaving of personal and biblical as advocated in this paper.
