Abstract
  • South African Baptist pastors are poorly trained for teaching ministry in the local church. A questionnaire administered in 1987 exposed specific weaknesses. The author developed a syllabus of instruction and conducted seminars in seven cities, concentrating particularly on basic principles of teaching and learning, on educational methods and media, and on the integration of the total teaching program of a church. Evaluation revealed that the seminars were of practical benefit, but the variety of cultural groups in South Africa necessitated supplementary and alternative efforts to address the need (e.g. audio and video recordings, field workers, and literature for self-study).
