Abstract
  • Set in the context of the Mennonite church and contemporary culture, this qualitative research study explores spiritual direction (defined as one Christian walking with another Christian who is seeking to be aware of God in everyday life) from the perspective of what Mennonite lay persons are looking for and how that relates to their congregational experience. The author learned that research participants are seeking a relationship to God, a connection to people, and personal spiritual growth. Research participants also identified that in their congregations they long for more mutual trust, spiritual conversation, and resources for the spiritual journey.
