- Abstract
- With the null hypothesis that there is no statistically significant difference between growing churches and declining churches with respect to the identified factors, the study surveys pastors and lay leaders of growing and declining congregations. Contextual and institutional factors are compared in the two groups of churches. Chi-square and t-tests suggest twenty-two significant differences between growing and declining churches. Among them are lay satisfaction, use of spiritual gifts, emphasis on lay leadership, desire for growth, and congregational setting.
