Abstract

This project proposes a theoretical model of leadership development that addresses selection, recruitment, and training of local church governance leaders, identifying the functional responsibilities, spiritual qualities, and core competencies required to lead local churches effectively. These assets are a contrast to the usual criteria often employed to select church leaders: personal magnetism, business acumen, financial success, and community influence. Leaders selected according to such criteria may employ good business sense but may lack spiritual insight and sensitivity to leading of the Holy Spirit.
