Abstract
  • Twenty pastors were placed in two self-identified groups labeled Disappointed Pastors and Overcoming Pastors. Disappointed Pastors are those who are currently in the midst of disappointment and burnout in their contexts of ministry. Overcoming Pastors are those who have emerged from a time of disappointment and burnout. The most often expressed sources of disappointment for both groups were higher expectations of laity, 'politics,' and administrative demands. Overcoming Pastors are those who are able to utilize spiritual, interpersonal, physical, and emotional techniques of stress management.
