Abstract
  • The project presents the thesis that, within the small town there is usually a set of 'community perceptions' composed of remembered events, commonly held opinions, and widely repeated anecdotes about the individuals and institutions in the community. Some of these perceptions apply to the churches in the community, and their characterization within these perceptions may have an impact upon their ministry. The perceptions of one small town are explored in a survey and the churches of the community are joined in an ecumenical response to these perceptions and enabled to react to them with greater self-awareness and intentionality.
