Abstract
  • Unsatisfied with currently available curricula, the author developed junior high curriculum (leader's guide and student's manual) for confirmation classes within the rural United Methodist Church. Confirmation can introduce youth to systematic theology/ecclesiology and be an initiatory vehicle into adult faith and service. Resources are limited in rural settings, so this project tried to expand limits while remaining pragmatic. The author, drawing upon his own experience in rural churches and from a broad range of sources, developed a 12-week course (God and Friends) which aims to be a concise, simple-to-use, yet comprehensive 'primer' on Christian doctrine and practice. The author concluded that confirmation training is a huge undertaking.
