- This project examines a group method of teaching lectio divina to Episcopalians. Lectio divina in its classic medieval, monastic form consisted of reading, meditation, prayer, and contemplation of the Scriptures. This classic approach, with the additional elements of journal keeping, the use of the Jesus Prayer, and the Jungian concept of 'active imagination' was taught to a group of six lay Episcopalians over a six-week period. Written responses from the participants show that this method yields practical results in a deepened prayer life, appreciation of Scripture, and a feeling of closeness to God.
