Abstract
  • The movement of mainline churches toward the margins of cultural and societal influence has created a missional situation for the North American church. Research in cultural studies, missiology, and liturgical theology, along with personal experience as a pastor in a variety of ministry settings, inform the author's proposal that the weekly celebration of the Eucharist in a local congregation is the center for mission in this time of 'exile.' The resulting study booklet enables lay members of congregations to explore the relationship between daily life and the structure, content, and experience of the Eucharist in light of the sacrament's missional movement.
