  • Many churches present parishioners with models of prayer that limit emotional expression, consequently silencing some voices. The author explored how reclaiming the model of prayer found in the Psalms and its undergirding theology may offer a healthier model of prayer. Lectio Divina was introduced as a vehicle to encourage retreat participants to write their own poem/prayers. Post-retreat surveys of the content and ways in which participants prayer, before and after the retreat, indicated that re-appropriating the hutzpa theology found in the psalms, along with the holistic practice of Lectio Divina encouraged people to reclaim their authentic voices in prayer.
