  • Decades of ecumenical dialogue have taken place on national and international levels. Is there any correlation between what is discussed on the wider levels and what occurs on the local level? Utilizing four years of ministry in a 'union church' setting and two existent studies of local ecumenism, the author tested ecumenical models to gauge their impact on the local level. He concludes local ecumenical efforts must eventually involve the theological content of national and international dialogues if local congregations are to approach the kind of unity our Lord desires. Yet, he also asserts that the local ecumenical pilgrimage does not have to--in fact, probably should not--begin there.
