Abstract
  • The author was interested in discovering the process by which the Metropolitan Community Church of Washington, DC became a diverse congregation over the period from August, 1983, to August, 2003. Research of membership records over twenty years and interviews with members of the congregation provided the data. In addition, the author researched diversity and leadership literature. The conclusion is that the leadership of the church needs to focus attention on the goal of diversity and lead the congregation with persistence, determination and flexibility.
