  • This chaplain-directer project, implemented in the medium-security prison at Norfolk, Massachusetts, involves the training of prisoners suffering the crisis of separation from family and outside community resources. Trainees, volunteer participant-observers, and the chaplain planned, carried out and evaluated the project. Training sessions focused on biblical and theological understandings of the believer-priest and caring community concepts, psychological and theological aspects of the separation crisis, and helping skills. Supervised ministry was directed toward helping persons cope with crises, transcend limitations, and grow in love toward God, neighbor, and self.
