Abstract
  • Although the Korean church has been enjoying quantitative growth, this has slowed in the 1990s, partly because it has not had effective newcomer assimilation programs. To overcome this problem, a newcomer assimilation curriculum was developed, based on biblical understanding of a searching God, Jesus as teacher, and the apostles as guides to new life, theological principles gained from the history of religious education, and systems theory. It was carried out in Mokdong Methodist Church for three months. Pre- and post-test evaluations showed that this model improved participants' Bible knowledge, relationship to existing members, and evangelistic activity, thereby enhancing qualitative church growth.
