Abstract
  • In a culture hearing mixed messages about the welfare, health, and strength of families, this research explores how families can be nurturing centers for growth: spiritual strength and growth; personal strength and growth; and familial strength and growth both horizontally and vertically. The family is defined not by a cultural or religious ideal or configuration, but by the purpose and functions of these Garden growth families that are to relate to God, others and self with mutual love and equal regard. The research uses a particular intergenerational educational nurturing model called family clusters and affirms families as domestic church. These families become nurturing centers of Garden growth family clusters in which each person within the family system becomes a gardener for each plant-person. Thus equipped, the family becomes its own best nurturing center.
