Abstract
  • The intent of this thesis is to look into ways in which the church might help people in the postmodern age encounter the living Lord Jesus Christ. Many postmoderns do not start from an understanding of the Judeo-Christian faith or believe in absolute truth, but see truth as an unfixed perspective relative to the community in which an individual lives. Yet postmoderns are deeply spiritual and longing for shelter from the bombardment of news about the economy, natural disasters, wars, and famines. They long for a home where they can find rest for their souls. The church is called to make known the God who is a shelter in the storm of life and a place of rest for weary souls. There are two ways in which the glorious Son of God is made known by the church: the preaching of Scripture and the worshiping community. It is hoped that the following thesis will inspire new ways to offer Christ, the anchor amidst the storm, to this generation.
