Abstract
  • This project explores the historical development of the Evangelical Church of Manus (Papua New Guinea) from 1914 to 1994 in order to identify missions approaches that may prevent pitfalls and enhance spiritual as well as numerical growth. Following a survey of the consequences of colonial conquest prior to arrival of the first Liebenzell missionaries on Manus, the project unfolds the history of the church in eight developmental stages: pioneer period, spiritual expansion, suffering and destruction in two wars, education, evangelism, localization, independence, and cooperation between the national church and its founding mission.
