- Abstract
- There are approximately seven million mentally disabled persons in the United States. How will the church respond to the needs of this ever-increasing population, or should it? The intent of this project is two-fold. First, to contribute a launching point for those who wish to begin a program. Second, to provide recommendations for the varied possibilities in curriculum and religious education of adults with mental disabilities in the local parish. A study was made of the literature available concerning the theological underpinnings, curriculum and current programs. Concurrently, a study was made of churches that have programs for mentally disabled adults.
