Abstract
  • This thesis assumes that marriage is a sacrament not only in the wedding but in the countless acts of married people that signify and manifest God's love. It examines a spirituality of marriage which is based on four actions of the eucharist; that of taking, blessing, breaking, and sharing. Each of these actions is treated as a metaphor for a distinctive aspect of spiritual life for married people. This thesis explores marriage as a sacrament drawing on pastoral experience with couples, scripture, Christian tradition, and the insights of Murray Bowen's family systems approach to marriage.
