  • The project evolved from the question: 'is the model of education used by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) an appropriate and effective way to train ministers for pastoral care in an urban setting?' The hypothesis was that CPE would be able to provide an adequate method of pastoral training and theological reflection for urban ministry. An urban CPE program was developed at the Oklahoma Baptist School of Religion in North Tulsa in order to train and certify ministers as chaplains in various community-based organizations. The students reported developing essential knowledge and skills necessary for effective urban ministry. In addition, students earned one certified unit of CPE by the National Association for Clinical Pastoral Education.
