Abstract
  • The thesis of this project is that church members' ability to relate to and understand the biblical and theological concepts presented in sermons is improved by the use of storytelling in preaching. This project uses two types of research: literary research, which is done in the areas of preaching, communication, narrative theology, and biblical studies; and social research which includes a survey of the congregation and interviews conducted with a small group. The literary and social research shows that storytelling in preaching does improve the church members' ability to relate to and understand biblical and theological material presented in sermons.
